About Us

About the Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Omaha?

Outreach1We are a community of Eastern Orthodox Christians who serve under the Greek Metropolis of Denver. GOCGO was started in May 2006 and is actively organizing a new, dynamic parish with a total focus on service to the Lord, outreach and growth. We are the daughter parish of Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church located at 602 Park Avenue.

Mission & Emphasis

As a Christian organization, we value both our community and young people. Our annual budget will have a 10% portion dedicated to our educational and youth ministries. Jesus demonstrated repeatedly how He valued children, and we are committed to doing likewise.

Our Vision

To be a dynamic and welcoming Greek Orthodox community dedicated to inspiring and prayerful worship, growth of the Orthodox Christian faith, quality and lifelong religious education for all, and loving service to those in need.

Our Strategic Direction

1. To fulfill the spiritual needs of our parishioners.
2. To represent the best of our Orthodox traditions in worship, praxis, art, and architecture.
3. To achieve 10% annual growth in membership through development and implementation of evangelical and outreach ministries.
4. To consistently promote the participation of all parishioners in spiritual, charitable, educational, and social activities.
5. To commit 20% of our annual budget to youth programs, evangelism, continuing education, and charitable activities.
6. To actively secure stewardship commitments from our parishioners consistent with their financial wealth.
7. To promote harmony and unity among our parishioners.

Growth, Evangelization & Committment

The GOCGO is seeing growth as we endeavor to reach out to the Omaha metropolitan area. We currently have over 80 families registered to the parish. In less than one year the parish has gone through initial start-up, purchased 8 acres of land, and organized critical ministries. For information about our youth ministries or other programs please contact Father Chris Margaritis (vulcan1@cox.net).

Another area we are very proud of is in our level of parish committment. Though still a relatively small parish, we have purchased 8 acres of land at 180th & Dodge as part of our forward thinking committment to growth. As part of that, our Qwest center capital campaign has raised over $45,000 in our first year. GOCGO has several teams of volunteers who work concessions at booth 119 at the Omaha Qwest center. If you're at a Qwest center event stop by and see us! (We don't work all events, but usually cover all the hockey and Creighton games).

Our community is very excited about both the present and the future of our ministries!
